While painting has always been reflective of the culture of the times, I think it does so especially well now. The physical act of making a painting is a timeless craft, but acceptance of experimental process, media crossover and technological integration are broadening the scope. While use of technology for art making is not a new concept, the popularity of digital photography and the Internet have become invaluable tools for accessing endless images of potential source material, contemporary art, and links to blogs, forums and anything else one could think of. We live in a fast paced, image based society, and I think paintings have a unique opportunity to slow things down for the viewer. The tradition of painting is growing, and I believe painters, as craftsmen, are using the medium as a tool to interpret the culture of today.
