My work is influenced by the unconscious visualization of memory, cinema, television, and photography. Traumatic memory and images stored in the brain can trigger automatic responses that are foreign. I believe this response is an important step in understanding basic human interaction in the physical world.

Written in Chalk is one of a series of paintings that explores a personal relation to trauma and the fracturing of memory. The remembrance of events both witnessed and remote live within our unconscious and provide clues to how we remember and how we recall.

The process of painting is a vehicle to distill moments of my own life, memory, and to investigate, re-appropriate my own thoughts into a tangible form. My paintings exist as a physical manifestation of the fractured layers of unconsciousness.
